| Utilizando metodologia estatística - regressão linear múltipla - foi examinada a relação entre dez variáveis financeiras e a captação agregada dos fundos de ações no período de maio de 1984 a abril de 1989. O impacto dos fundos de curto prazo, operacionalizados em janeiro de 1987, foi avaliado com variáveis dummy. Conclui-se, com base nos resultados, pela significância das variações dos fundos de renda fixa, Ibovespa, cadernetas de poupança e dólar no paralelo. É significativa, também, a influência dos fundos de curto prazo quando de sua introdução no mercado.

| Title: Relevant factors on aggregate net income of Brazilian equity funds |

| The behavioral relationship between ten financial market factors and aggregate net inflows to Brazilian mutual funds was tested and analyzed with the aid of a multiple regression model. The monthly data utilized cover the period from May 1984 to April 1989, and the impact of short-term money market funds, whose operations started in January 1987 was evaluated via the inclusion of a dummy variable. Results indicate that changes in inflows to fixed-income money market funds, in the Ibovespa stock market index, in inflows to savings and loan associations and the informal exchange rate between the local currency and the U.S. dollar were found to have significant explanatory power. The influence of the introduction of short-term money market funds on inflows to stock mutual funds was also found to be significant.
